Research interests: 

Keglevich developed a P-heterocyclic research in the subject of ring enlargement of five-membered P-heterocycles and on the utilization of the products so obtained. He elaborated the synthesis of a number of families of compounds. Bridged P-heterocycles, precursors of low-coordinated fragments, were synthesized and utilized in phosphorylations. The study on the synthesis and reactivity of aromatic phospholes forms another relevant part of his research. Additional research interests for Keglevich include Diels-Alder reactions, low-coordinated P-fragments, phosphine-transition metal complexes, selective reductions, phosphine-boranes, azacrown ethers with phosphonoalkyl side-chains and selective reductions. Mechanisms and theoretical aspects are also of his interest. Recently, he has turned towards environmentally friendly syntheses. Environmentally friendly chemistry (green chemistry) forms new aspects of his research. It means MW chemistry, the synergism of MW and phase transfer catalysis, ionic liquids, the development of new catalysts and monitoring reactions by in situ methods.
He took also part in industrial projects, such as the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates and products.
He is the author or co-author of ca 550 papers (the majority of which appeared in international journals).

Studies, degrees: 

György Keglevich was born in Budapest (Hungary) in 1957 and graduated from the Technical University of Budapest in 1981 as a chemical engineer. He got PhD in 1984 and “Doctor of Chemical Science” degree in 1994, both in the subject of organophosphorus-chemistry. He obtained the “Dr Habil.” degree in 1995. DSc in 1994. He was a Research Associate at Duke University (Durham, North Carolina) for more than one year duration with Professor Louis D. Quin. Two occasions, he was a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts for shorter periods of time.

Workplaces, positions: 

Keglevich has been working at the Department of Organic Chemical Technology since 1981, first as the research employee of the Chinoin Pharmaceutical Factory and from 1982 as the member of the teaching staff as an Assistant Professor. In 1993, he was appointed to Associate Professor. From 1996, he is a Full Professor at the Department of Organic Chemical Technology. He has been the head of the Department of Organic Chemical Technology since 1999. From 2007, the Department headed by G. Keglevich is Department of Organic Chemistry and Technology.

Academic administration
Scientific organisation memberships: 

Gy. Keglevich was given the “Zemplén-Price” in 1991 and the “Széchenyi Fellowship” in 1997. He was decorated by the “Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences” in 2004. He has been the member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Hungarian Chemists and the Hungarian Chemical Journal since 1993 and 2004, respectively. He has been an Editorial Board Member of Heteroatom Chemistry since 2001. He was appointed to an Executive Guest-Editor of Current Organic Chemistry in 2004. He is the member of the Editorial Board of Phosphorus, Sulfur and Silicon, and the Related Elements from 2007. He has been the member of the Editorial Board of The Open Organic Chemistry Journal, The Open Physical Chemistry Journal and the member of the Editorial Board of Referees for the Journal ARHIVOC since 2008. He became European Regional Editor for Current Organic Chemistry in 2009. He became the member of the Editorial Board of Current Organic Synthesis in 2009. He was appointed to Associate Editor Letters in Drug Design and Discovery in 2011. He was promoted to the co-Editor-in-Chief of Letters in Organic Chemistry and to the Editor-in-Chief of Current Green Chemistry in 2012
He is the member of the Organic and Biomolecular Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (H A S) from 2002. He takes part in the work of the Heterocyclic and Theoretical Organic Chemical Committees of the H A S.
From 1998, he was the member, and in the period of 1999-2002 he was the chairman of Chemical Section II of the Hungarian Scientific Research Fund. Currently, he became again the member of Chemical Section II of the Hungarian Scientific Research Fund in 2011. From 2012 he was again appointed as the chairman of Chemical Section II of the Hungarian Scientific Research Fund.
He holds a number of positions at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, TUB.
