Our head of department, László Hegedűs, habilitated associate professor, told in a radio interview how he and his late mentor, Tibor Máthé, helped to develop the industrial production technology of the most successful Hungarian active pharmaceutical ingredient, cariprazine. They were not involved in the discovery of the cariprazine molecule itself, but worked with researchers at Richter Gedeon to develop a simpler, cheaper and less harsh hydrogenation process for the production of a key intermediate - trans-4-aminocyclohexylhexyl acetic acid ethyl ester.HCl. The new method contributed to the realisation of the industrial production of cariprazine (Vraylar® / Reagila®).
